Amazon’s offerings keep getting more and more compelling for developers. With their new Elastic Beanstalk offering it’s getting easier than ever for developers to build apps and scale. If you’re a developer your concerns are getting your product to market and then scaling. Amazon has made this process easier than ever. The Elastic Beanstalk offers Amazon’s EC2 for computing power and S3 for data storage. It looks like the war for Cloud Computing is being fought over who can get the most developers. The competition will be heated and lines are being drawn. Microsoft is banking on their Azure platform and Google has their AppEngine. These three are only the tip of the iceberg for choices developers have.
My question is “who will attract the best developers with the most enticing product offerings?” The battle for Cloud platform supremacy will be won by the solution that offers an affordable and effective solution for developers. As it gets easier to bring software to market the key is who can host it the best. And we all know the SaaS model needs hosts. The software ecosystem is already changing to favor these small SaaS developers. I just wonder who will win the battle to host their applications.
