Microsoft’s Cloud a sign for Mobile?

A recent survey reveals that the skeptics are being slowly won over in the Cloud Computing battle. While it’s not surprising it’s worth noting that of the respondents almost all preferred more established brands such as HP and IBM to Amazon or even Google. To me, it makes Microsoft’s Azure offering even more compelling particularly with the problems Google is facing with the LAPD. My question is with Microsoft’s big bet on the Cloud where does that leave their partners and also Windows Mobile 7?

Microsoft Partners

According to the TechGenie Microsoft partners have two choices, Go with the Cloud, or Go Home. It’s no surprise that some partners are reluctant to move but Microsoft is “all in” and it’ll be interesting to watch what happens over the coming months.

Microsoft Mobile

Despite Apple always grabbing the headlines I wouldn’t count Microsoft out of this fight quite yet. Our prediction is that Microsoft’s new mobile OS will leverage the power of Azure. For a new Windows Mobile OS to really take off though it’s going to have to pack one hell of a punch. One of those right hooks could come in the form of a Microsoft Slate/Tablet PC. The reports of a Microsoft Tablet have ebbed and flowed over the past year. Apple has clearly proven that there’s a market for these devices, even if it is a very “unique customer“.

The strength of Azure however will be measured by the ability of developers to leverage its capabilities and launch incredible applications.
