For 21 years, I’ve been anticipating a day when MSPs are recognized as the indispensable guardians of data privacy and security that they are. With that recognition comes responsibility, and responsibility will continue to arrive in the form of government regulation of MSPs in a particular way.

Highlights:

  • MSP regulation will be indirect
  • Not all MSP regulation will say “MSP” in it
  • MSPs (as proxies for their clients) will be impacted by regulation, but also benefit from it
  • MSP regulation will accelerate IT management and security best practices

Charles: Your comments are spot on, and have greatly matured, as has our industry, since our initial conversation in Atlanta in 2004.

Data has become such a focal point (or should be) and security has become the critical point.

Every MSP, regardless of maturity, should have a $2 million dollar E & O policy, one that covers any contractors they hire, given the above.
