Survey shows a bright outlook for IT salaries, budgets in 2014 and beyond

According to the numbers, 55 percent of IT professionals experienced a pay raise in 2013, averaging a 5.5 percent hike across the board.

The importance of technology solutions in the IT world has never been higher. Systems like big data and cloud computing are affecting multiple departments and as the influence spreads, so too does the need to manage and keep the solutions safe. Because is this, the cost of quality professionals in IT channel is skyrocketing.

Recently, TechTarget released the results of its 2013 Salary and Careers Survey. It features the responses of 1,711 IT professionals with the goal of examining the year that was, while also anticipating future earnings and technology priorities in 2014.

According to the numbers, 55 percent of IT professionals experienced a pay raise in 2013, averaging a 5.5 percent hike across the board. When it comes to individual positions, many roles have at least 50 percent of respondents citing a pay increase. Systems administrators and compliance and privacy officers topped the list, with 60 percent saying their salary increased.

More than half of respondents in the following positions said they received a pay increase last year:

  • Senior IT executive
  • Project manager
  • IT manager
  • General IT staff
  • Programmer/developer
  • Security manager
  • Director of business applications
  • Database administrator

While 2013 proved to be a solid year for technology professionals, 2014 could be even better. When it comes to compensation, 53 percent of respondents believe they will be in line for a raise in 2014. On top of that, 76 percent believe IT budgets will remain the same or increase, while 70 percent believe the same thing about headcount.
