Three Cloud Computing Predictions

The biggest issue with Cloud Computing over the next few years will be security. We’ve mentioned it before in posts but I’d like to lay out a few predictions for what we’re likely to see.

#1. Certifying Organizations for Cloud Computing – The Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) announced a new online security certification for Cloud providers. Certifications are big business as nearly any organization adopting Cloud Computing wants to do so with piece of mind. We’ll see growth and then consolidation as only a few certifiers will be able to show off a great record and will emerge from those just looking to make a quick buck.

#2. Privacy Protection – The EU’s privacy protection laws are some of the strongest in the world and watching the quagmire that Google’s in over Google maps leads one to wonder, what will happen to Cloud Computing in Europe? There’s no doubt that tensions are increasing in Europe over Cloud Computing. It’ll be interesting to watch the development of Cloud Computing in the EU. With the concern for data segregation and privacy Google and Microsoft may find themselves back in the EU’s Court.

#3. Hackers- What post about security would be complete without a mention of hackers? At the recent DEFCON conference 96% of attendees felt that Cloud Computing will make hacking easier. Which begs two question, #1. When have hackers ever been modest? and #2. Is this just an opinion poll? The answers? Not often and yes.

What do you think? What are your predictions for the future of Cloud Computing?
