The Education Battle

We’ve mentioned before that we expect Government contracts to be a battleground for Cloud providers. As the Great Recession drags any budget relief that can be found is being sought. Schools in particular have been hit hard and are looking for ways to cut costs. With both Google and Microsoft offering their incredible deals it makes sense for educational institutions to make the jump.

The past year has seen Google and Microsoft trading announcements as schools have lined up for cost savings. Coming hot off the heels of Microsoft’s deployment of Live for the State of Kentucky and University of Georgia’s 85,000 students it looks like Google has responded by notching the State of Maryland on it’s belt.

I think we’ll see the speed of Cloud adoption by schools accelerate this year, my reasoning? Schools are hurting. Cloud adoption is increasing as schools quickly whittle down budgets everywhere they can. Additionally as more and more schools sign up adoptions fears are eased.

One of the bigger questions however is “where are the MSP’s?” MSPMentor.net comes out and asks the question, where will MSP’s be in the Education system with Google and Microsoft in the hunt?
