KineticD may not be a name you immediately recognize but my guess is they will become a household name amongst the managed services channel pretty quickly. Their technology has been around for a while now and it is fast becoming used by MSPs all over. KineticD purchased ROBOBAK earlier this year and with that acquisition it inherited not only technology but a MSP user base as well. This acquisition, along with their own improvements, seems to have created a very compelling solution for MSPs looking to have more flexibility as to where their customer backup data will reside. ![]()
Last week I spoke with KineticD CEO Jamie Brenzel about the new server offering for MSPs. While some cloud vendors want to push their own data center or completely leave it up to the MSP to figure it out, KeneticD is offering MSPs both options. MSPs can select to use the KineticD data center or use their own, providing a true hybrid approach to this solution.
“There are many challenges that SMBs face when looking to protect their data, not the least of which is easy accessibility, reliability of data stored in the cloud and easy access to that data in case of a disaster,” said Brenzel. “That’s why we went the distance to develop a true hybrid cloud solution with KineticCloud for Servers.”
Some of the features being offered in this latest release include:
- Global block-level de-duplication at the source for faster backup times and reduction of storage costs
- Local backup and restore from hundreds of end-points for as low as $19.95 per month
- Agentless deployment
- Incremental backups forever
- Faster restore – each incremental is a full restore point
- Granular scheduling
- Native support for Microsoft Small Business Server, Exchange, Outlook, SQL as well as virtual environments including Hyper-V and VMWare.
I am encouraged to see vendors like KineticD offer more flexibility for their partners rather than forcing solutions they think are in demand. The truth is, MSPs frequently have diverse customers and their own requirements do change regularly. This should be the norm for cloud vendors selling into the channel.
