Asigra Adds Appliance Thanks to Cisco Relationship

sponsor_asigraCloud backup, recovery and restore software provider, Asigra, today announced volume shipping of the company’s Cloud Backup Connector Appliance. The program uses the Cisco ISR G2 router and UCS E-Series server blade and includes the latest version of Asigra Cloud Backup™ software. The appliance provides onsite backup data storage and the ability to replicate to external cloud service providers at the user’s discretion for both local and remote recovery.

This is an interesting play for Asigra for a number of reasons.

1) It opens up Asigra to a number of new partners within the Cisco partner community, companies that would otherwise never have heard of Asigra before.
2) The relationship helps those Cisco partners get into new forms of managed services, like backup. While Cisco does have its own managed services program, it tends to focused around Cisco technology exclusively.
3) By leveraging Cisco’s appliance, Asigra can remain focused on developing software and not get bogged down by having to create hardware for their partners. Plus, Asigra partners (and customers) have a brand in Cisco that is well known and trusted.
4) Although this is pure speculation, this program does raise an interesting notion of a possible deeper  relationship between Asigra and Cisco down the road.
