Cloud Certification Program Adds GDPR and Cyber Security Enhancements

MSP/Cloud Verify Program now includes GDPR and cyber security modules; program helps service providers comply with GDPR regulation and meet key cyber security best practices

Chapel Hill, NC - The International Association of Cloud & Managed Service Providers (MSPAlliance®) today announced key enhancements to its MSP/Cloud Verify program, including new cyber security and GDPR modules designed to meet the latest security threats and data privacy standards. The GDPR module allows MSPs impacted by the General Data Protection Regulation to meet the regulatory requirements of that legal framework.

The GDPR module covers issues such as geo-location disclosure, access controls, and the use of data processing officers. The cyber security module reports on issues such as data privacy and security, internal and external security monitoring, and data backup procedures.

“GDPR is fast becoming a global regulatory framework, even for MSPs who do not physically reside in Europe,” said Charles Weaver, CEO of MSPAlliance. “The MSP/Cloud Verify program provides a very solid foundation for MSPs to achieve compliance with GDPR and communicate that compliance to customers in an effective manner.”

In addition to the GDPR module, the MSPAlliance also announced that its Cloud and MSP Insurance program will soon cover issues arising from GDPR related events. The MSPAlliance program was designed to offer comprehensive insurance for managed service providers, offering both general as well as professional liability coverage.

“Like other major privacy regulations, GDPR presents both risks and opportunities for managed service providers.” said Rob Scott of Scott & Scott, LLP.  MSP’s and cloud service providers are likely to be considered “processors” and therefore subject to GDPR’s requirements.  If processing of EU data is systematic, certain MSP’s will be required to retain the services of a Data Processing Officer.” according to Scott.  “The use of insurance to mitigate the increased risk of claims associated with the GDPR will become increasingly important over time.  The MSPAlliance is actively working to bring a GDPR ready insurance policy to the global market and expects the product to be available when the regulation become effective in the end of May of this this year.” Scott said.
