Google and Verizon Enter Net Neutrality Debate

Almost a year ago I wrote a blog advocating a position against FCC intrusion on the so called “net neutrality” debate. Earlier this week, both Verizon and Google did as well, essentially taking the same position as I did. While I will not recount the entire proposal (you can read a great op ed on the debate in the Wall Street Journal) I will say that the way the two companies is going about solving this issue is good.

Regardless if you are fans of Google/Verizon their proposal this week is a great example of private industry coming together to solve a problem that really should not be solved by government. The pace at which technology changes coupled with the extreme inefficiency and sluggishness of how government governs should be the nest argument for private sector solving its own problems instead of relying on government to do so.

What does this mean for everyday MSPs? Quite a lot actually. This is the beginning of what I have always predicted would be the attempted regulation of the managed services industry, whether directory or indirectly. The difference in this case is these are large companies fighting battles in what eventually will be our war.
