I think this is one of the most critical questions facing MSPs in 2019. Once MSPs get past the initial hurdle of finding and hiring staff, the task becomes how to train and keep those individuals happy and productive.
Here are a few areas where MSPs should be focusing on personnel happiness and productivity in 2019.
Training
MSPs need to stop relying on external individual training and certification as the sole or primary method of career advancement within your practice. It is essential to provide your technical staff with plenty of options to advance within your organization. It is natural for people to become bored if they are not challenged. Offering internal training programs for your team is crucial for keeping them engaged and happy.
MSP Evolution
MSPs who stagnate not only risk losing customers, they risk losing their team members as well. People like to be part of organizations who are evolving. This means, your MSP practice needs to be continually looking at the changing marketplace, talking to your customers, and developing new services and solutions to deliver. Trust me, do this and your internal staff will notice.
Benefit Programs
Gone are the days when a pension was the primary corporate benefit you offered to your employees. Today, with a new generation entering the workforce, there are new opportunities and demands from your employees. Flexible work hours, remote work, PTO, even simple things like catering lunches for your team can make a tremendous difference in morale.
There are many other methods you can use to engage, enhance, and maintain high levels of productivity and satisfaction among your team. The point is, you need to act now and constantly invest in your team. Not only will it keep your existing staff happy, but it will also be attractive to future employees as they consider where they want to work.
