I’m sitting at MSPWorld in Dublin Ireland and one of the big themes is the difference between real MSPs and MSPs in name only. In Ireland, just like almost everywhere else in the world, there is a continuing problem with companies who have all the right marketing literature, say all the correct things, and yet don’t have a clue about how to deliver a managed service. From what I can tell, the Irish members really don’t like that. For that matter, I don’t know a MSP that does.
I asked the members what could be done to combat this behavior and got a lot of great ideas, some the MSPAlliance will be implementing in the near future. The important thing is for MSPs to band together and identify this behavior in order to educate the consumer market. This appears to be one of the bonding experiences mature MSPs all go through. After all, if the consumer doesn’t know any different, what’s the point?
