Expands IT Management Product Portfolio and Technologies
SOMERSET, N.J. (June 8, 2005) — Raritan — a leading provider of products for managing IT infrastructure — today announced the acquisition of Oculan Systems of Raleigh, N.C. Oculan provides integrated management solutions for monitoring and managing server, network and desktop health and security for mid-sized businesses.
The all-in-one Oculan appliances — which guard against network outages and degradation, performance slowdowns, security weaknesses and incoming attacks — will become part of Raritan’s portfolio of solutions that simplify and accelerate IT equipment management and maintenance. Coupled with Raritan’s remote IT access and control appliances and worldwide customer reach, the Oculan offerings will help Raritan further capitalize on the growing IT infrastructure management market.
“Oculan products, with their ability to discover, monitor and manage network equipment and servers, complement Raritan’s products that provide anywhere, anytime access to IT equipment,” said Thomas Swift, President and Chief Operating Officer of Raritan. “Together they deliver additional value to our customers by providing a comprehensive, cost-effective, easy-to-use solution to manage the many elements of an IT infrastructure. Oculan’s current customers will benefit from Raritan’s resources, support and products; while Raritan’s customers will benefit from the enhanced offerings.”
Oculan products provide mid-sized businesses with an affordable alternative to multiple point solutions; and offer all the powerful capabilities typically found in solutions for large enterprises. The highly scalable Oculan offerings also are targeted at managed service providers (MSPs) and value added resellers (VARs) that provide IT equipment and services to mid-sized businesses. With a combination of Oculan and Raritan products, service providers can remotely monitor and manage customer networks and servers more efficiently.
“The Raritan and Oculan match is a good one. The two companies offer appliances to help companies simplify IT equipment management – Oculan’s products monitor the health and security of IT equipment, while Raritan provides remote access to this equipment for quick repair,” said Dennis Drogseth, vice president of Enterprise Management Associates, a leading analyst firm based in Boulder, Colo. “The combined company’s offerings should be attractive to customers – especially mid-sized businesses that have limited IT resources – because of their scope and proven ease of use.”
The Oculan product line — which will carry the Raritan CommandCenter® brand — continues to be sold through Oculan’s existing channel of VARs, system integrators and MSPs, and will become available through Raritan’s extensive global channels. In addition, Oculan technology will be integrated with Raritan’s ongoing developments. Raleigh becomes the home of Raritan’s 35th office.
“Managed services providers currently do a good job monitoring IT networks, but the future for MSPs is proactive management,” said Charles Weaver, founder and president of the MSP Alliance, a trade group representing more than 200 managed service providers and vendors. “By combining the discovery and monitoring capabilities of Oculan’s products with the remote-access capabilities of Raritan’s KVM switches and serial console servers, MSPs can proactively manage IT infrastructures in order to improve the level of service they provide their clients.”
According to Network Engineer Bruce Smalley at Edens & Avant, one of the largest privately held commercial real estate companies in the United States, “Oculan products help manage our 30 servers and networks in our Columbia, S.C., corporate headquarters; three regional headquarters in Boston, Washington, D.C., and Atlanta; as well as 13 regional offices. With Raritan’s remote management offerings, we’ll be able to cost effectively resolve any problems without having to send a technician to our sites. The combination of Oculan’s intrusion detection and vulnerability scanning with Raritan’s remote BIOS-level access to servers and other IT devices will help us detect, diagnose and repair problems faster, resulting in even higher up-time for our equipment.”
