Which RMM Vendors Dominate the MSP Mid-Market?

Not long ago, Nimsoft used to hold the title of reining champ within the remote montirong class of mid-market managed services. WHile not the only vendor, Nimsoft emerged as early as 2005 as a dominant player in the RMM class of vendors who were targeting managed service providers. When CA purchased Nimsoft back in 2010, the acquisition created a sort of vacuum for mid-market RMM vendors. So, in 2013 who are the RMM vendors you should be looking at in terms of mid-market capabilities?

Zyrion
Zyrion has been appearing at numerous MSPWorld events in recent years and has been loudly broadcasting their desire to reach mature MSPs. Zyrion not only closed out a successful 2012, but has been gaining traction within the analyst community as well for their high profile end-user customers. Zyrion is definitely on the up and coming list to watch!

Nimsoft
Nimsoft cannot be counted out just yet. They possess a great deal of great technology and with the financial backing of CA, have the capacity to do tremendous things within managed services. Since Gary Read, former Nimsoft CEO, has left the company, some MSPs have questioned the direction of the company and where they are headed with regards to the larger MSP community.

Kaseya
Although Kaseya has its roots in the SMB and desktop monitroing space, over the last decade the company has made significant strides in signing up mature MSPs to use their technology. While some may argue that Kaseya is more of an SMB player, there are certainly a number of very mature MSPs who run their practice on the Kaseya platform.

N-able
Now the grandfather of RMM platforms, N-able has been around the longest and still enjoys a considerable advantage in terms of brand awareness and a global base of MSPs that continues to grow even today. The same argument regarding Kaseya can also be applied to N-able; that they are more focused at the SMB market. But, again, N-able has had quite a few mid-market MSP players over the years and continues to invest in the success of its MSP partner base.

In the end, choosing RMM technologies is largely a matter of personal preference, cost models, and functionality. All the platforms do largely the same thing, with some notable distinctions. If, however, your MSP practice is on a growth trend and you anticipate adding managed services customers and/or increasing the size of customers you target, you should plan ahead and select an RMM partner that can grow with you.

Editorial note: This list is not exhaustive and there are plenty of other options available.
