Some new market projections have been released today. Research and Markets released its latest survey results and they are projecting the global managed services market to be worth nearly $230 billion by 2020. This represents CAGR of over 10%.
While MSPAlliance does not have access to the report data, there are some immediate conclusions we can make based on the announcement release.
- This particular study is comprised mostly of large enterprise service providers. We must assume that a large number of MSPs servicing mid-market and SMB customers are NOT represented in this study. Therefore, the number is probably much larger.
- The study is global in its focus.
- Many different managed services disciplines are represented, including security, storage, mobility, and network.
While data such as this is helpful, it really paints with a broad brush what we in the profession understand can be very nuanced and subtle movements throughout the calendar year. Nevertheless, to have managed services growth of over 10% is very good news.
In comparing this study to the MSPAlliance’s own market survey in 2015, both numbers are somewhat in sync. Back in 2015, MSPAlliance reported the North American managed services market was generating $154 billion. While that study did have a few enterprise providers in it, it was predominantly made up of mid-market and SMB MSPs.
So, if I were guess, I’d probably say the combined MSP market is likely already at around $200 billion, if not a little higher.
