Pioneering MSP Standards

The podcast “Now That’s IT” hosted by Chris Massey of N-able featured a significant conversation with Charles Weaver, co-founder and CEO of MSPAlliance. They discussed the inception of MSPAlliance and the development of the Unified Certification Standard for Cloud and Managed Service Providers (UCS), a pioneering framework in the industry. This standard, which became effective in 2004, was designed to provide assurance to customers that the MSP has established a corporate and organizational structure aimed at maximizing efficiency and minimizing risk.

The conversation highlighted the evolution of the managed services industry from the 90s dot-com era to the present, underscoring the challenges MSPs face and the necessity for industry standards and ongoing regulation. The dialogue between Weaver and Massey shed light on the early days of managed services and the significant strides taken to establish a benchmark for service providers, reflecting the increasing complexity and sophistication of IT environments and the strategic value MSPs bring to businesses.
