Many MSPs, particularly those outside the United States, have choices to make when it comes to selecting which certifications they will undergo. While there are quite a few IT related certifications and standards available, end-users often are unaware of which certifications they should be requesting when they evaluate a MSP.

This is actually a common frustration both for the end user and the MSP who must decide the certifications they will pursue. Luckily, the Unified Certification Standard (UCS) addresses this very issue. While different standards do exist, when evaluating MSPs, there is only one standard that has existed for nearly a decade specifically designed for MSPs; the UCS.

The UCS has components (called control objectives) that cover many existing standards, like ITIL, CobIT, and ISO 27001. Because the UCS is designed for MSPs by MSPs, only the most relevant aspects of these other standards apply. This means end users have a standard directly applicable to what they are evaluating. It also means MSPs have a certification that encompasses many different standards recognized throughout the world.

If you are an end user or MSP and would like to learn more about how the UCS relates to other IT standards like ITIL, ISO 27001, and others, please contact the MSPAlliance today.
